A Beautiful Easter Celebration
By Dena Zigun April 17, 2014
Easter means joyous family celebrations. As always, our Roche Bros. and Sudbury Farms stores are stocked with all of the ingredients you need for a brunch or dinner you create yourself, and a slew of gourmet, home-style choices from Our Kitchen if you’d like to leave all the cooking to us!
Start by dressing your home with the freshest spring flowers from our floral department. Choose from bold Celebration Bouquets, soft pastel Bunny Bloom Bouquets, a bright array of Spring Bulb Plants and anything custom you would like our floral designers to create.
Here is what you need to host a festive brunch or traditional dinner this Easter:
Your Easter brunch
For your Easter brunch, there is one sure thing: Eggs are a central item on the menu. We have all the tips you need to make your own frittata and a fun new recipe for Eggs in a Basket. Sometimes referred to as Egg’s Nest or Sunshine Toast, this recipe combines a few favorite breakfast foods into one delicious package.
Start off your Easter morning with this recipe for Ham, Asparagus, and Gruyere Strata. Be sure to plan on preparing it the night before, as this dish requires at least four hours of refrigeration.
From Our Kitchen, bring home any of our delicious traditional Quiches or our new Smoked Salmon Crustless Quiche, featuring a savory mixture of smoked salmon, red onion, red peppers, asparagus, mushrooms and dill.
On the side, make your bacon special by glazing it with brown sugar and maple syrup. Or find Vermont Smoke & Cure Bacon in Roche Bros. meat department.
A traditional Easter dinner
A centerpiece on many Easter tables year after year, Our Signature Honey Crunch Ham makes Easter dinner memorable all over Massachusetts.
As an alternative, try one of our other popular entrée selections: Our Honey Crunch Turkey, spiral cut ham, boneless turkey breast, prime rib or roasted boneless leg of lamb.
Or roast your own leg of lamb! Coat the lamb evenly with lemon juice, fresh minced garlic and rosemary. Then, season with salt and pepper and roast it in the oven. When it’s done, use the pan drippings to make a sauce. Add fresh herbs and deglaze the pan with white wine and chicken stock. Reduce it until you get the consistency of a sauce.
On the side, the options are many. Complement your prime rib or lamb with Our Kitchen’s Roasted Asparagus with Parmesan Cheese, Pine Nuts and Balsamic Vinegar or Lemon Orzo Verde.
Make your ham into a complete meal with our Cheddar Baked Potatoes or Roasted Rosemary Red Potatoes. Serve turkey with our Roasted Maple Butternut Squash and Fresh Sauteed Vegetable Medley.
The finishing touch
End your meal on a sweet note with a platter of home-baked cookies, a beautiful strawberry shortcake with fresh whipped cream or a fresh-baked pie.
Or stop at Roche Bros.’ bakery. From our own homemade Ricotta Pie to hand-decorated Chocolate Easter Egg Cakes that are truly a work of art, our bakery has what you need to make your holiday dessert something to remember.
Passover Menu Tips and Choices
By Dena Zigun April 09, 2014
Whether you want to cook a spectacular Passover dinner yourself or take the meal home with you to heat and serve – or something in between – Roche Bros. has everything you need to make this Passover a special one. This year Passover is April 15 to April 22. The first night of the holiday is celebrated on Monday, April 14.
Here’s what you need to know to plan your best seder menu yet, and to make your family’s meals throughout the whole eight-day holiday delicious and easy:
Passover appetizers are full of tradition, and for many people, they’re the best part of the meal.
Take home Chopped Chicken Liver and Gefilte Fish, with a side of horseradish. The holiday just wouldn’t be the same without the aroma of Chicken Soup with Matzo Balls simmering on the stove.
You’ll also find all the matzo and matzo crackers you need – both regular and gluten-free – in our grocery department.
Whether you make your own or bring it home, you can’t go wrong with brisket as your Passover main course.
Other traditional choices include roast chicken or turkey, and chicken breasts stuffed with matzo stuffing. Try our zesty new recipe for Whole Roasted Lemon-Thyme Chicken, with fresh-squeezed lemon and savory thyme. Find all of the main course meats you need for any recipe in Roche Bros.’ meat department – or take it with you, from Our Kitchen to your table.
From fresh spring vegetable side dishes to traditional Passover accompaniments, your options are virtually endless.
In Our Kitchen, we’ll be roasting red potatoes with onions, mashing potatoes with garlic and making our own Homemade Potato Kugel. We’ll be glazing carrots with honey, mixing a beautiful medley of asparagus and making Matzo Stuffing, with and without spinach.
If you’re looking to make a special yet simple side dish, pair your chicken or brisket with a colorful rainbow of vegetables. Mix fresh sweet potatoes, red and yellow peppers, zucchini and onions, with olive oil and your choice of fresh herbs. Roast them slowly in the oven at a low temperature so they’ll come out bursting with beauty and flavor.
Just because everyday cakes and cookies aren’t part of the Passover tradition, that doesn’t mean you have to skip dessert. Roche Bros. has all sorts of great unleavened choices to satisfy your family’s sweet tooth.
Find all flavors and sizes of macaroons in our bakery department. And steal the show with Our Own Flourless Chocolate Decadence Cake. This rich, fudgy creation will be the pinnacle of your meal and wow all of your guests.
The whole meal catered for you!
If you’re looking for a home-style Passover meal without all the work, order everything you need from our Creative Entertaining catering service.
In addition to Roast Brisket as an entree, we are offering Stuffed Chicken Breasts, Roast Plainville Turkey and Roast Empire Turkey, ready to heat and serve at home.
A full dinner for 8-10 people with the entrée of your choice includes the following: 2 pounds of Chopped Chicken Liver or 8 pieces of Gefilte Fish, 3 quarts of Chicken Soup and 12 Matzo Balls, your choice of two 4-pound Side Dishes, and a Brownie and Macaroon Platter.
Our Passover offerings will be available in-store beginning Friday, April 11th. We encourage ordering ahead to ensure availability.
The order deadline is Friday, April 11th for pick-up beginning Sunday, April 13, 2014 and by special order through the end of Passover. Also try any of these items and many more a la carte, as a supplement to whatever you are cooking up at home!
Roche Bros. and Sudbury Farms are not kosher establishments.
