This July 4th weekend, get patriotic all the way down to the food on your plate with our fun, delicious and colorful food and drink ideas.

Start by decorating your table with a red and white gingham table cloth. Tie your white napkins in red and blue ribbons, and don’t forget flowers to match.

Enjoy our favorite tastes of red, white and blue with these preparations for every part of your party:

Festive at the first bite: Get everyone in the mood for fireworks with easy-to-make bruschetta with tomatoes and blue cheese. Take a crusty French baguette home from our bakery. Chop up fresh tomatoes for the topping and season with salt and pepper, plus a touch of olive oil. Sprinkle blue cheese crumbles on top for the finish.

Fill your chip and dip plate with blue corn tortilla chips, or mix them with white. Serve with bowls of fresh salsa and sour cream.

Start your soiree with mini bowls of spicy gazpacho. Blend chopped onions, cucumbers, peppers, celery, canned tomatoes and seasonings, and top with crushed blue chips and a dollop of sour cream.

Your patriotic dinner is served: Turn burgers into fireworks of red, white and blue. Top them with a roasted red pepper, a slice of grilled, white Vidalia onion and a round of blue cheese. Or keep it simple – and spicy – with a swirl of buffalo sauce and cool ranch dressing.

Give grilled chicken a boost with freshly made strawberry-blueberry salsa on top. Chop the berries, along with fresh ginger, garlic, and onions. This salsa also goes well with white fish, such as cod or haddock.

Three cheers for spectacular side dishes: The patriotic red, white and blue potato mix in our produce department is ideal for this holiday. Roast them in the oven with salt, pepper, olive oil and fresh herbs. Stir in some sliced red peppers before roasting to make them even brighter.

Mix cherries, blueberries, pecans and scallions into red and white quinoa or wild rice. Serve warm or cold as a BBQ side.

A sweet independence: Offer stars-and-stripes yogurt parfaits as part of your Independence Day dessert. Find parfaits in our kitchen or make your own, layered in stripes with strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. Add a star fruit slice on the side before serving!

For another beautiful way to serve stripes, make berry kabobs. Serve with fresh whipped cream for dipping.

As always, our bakery is prepared for your celebration with flag cakes, red, white and blue trifles and more.

A glass of something festive: Fruity cocktails with fizz bring sparkle to your celebration. Try Prosecco or champagne with raspberries and blueberries in the glass. Or make a pitcher of white wine spritzers with seltzer, berries and a slice of star fruit on the side of the glass. Find your choice of wine at Roche Bros. in Norton, Sudbury, Westwood, Marshfield, Wellesley and Downtown Crossing.

For something non-alcoholic, try our recipe for red, white and blue layered mocktails and striped ice cubes. Or replace the wine in the spritzer with white grape juice! For a fun addition, add raspberries and blueberries with the water in your ice cube trays. Use the cubes in regular or sparkling water.

Happy 4th from all of us at Roche Bros!

Bacon and Brunch

The only thing better than a big, hearty brunch is when it’s served with bacon! Pair bacon with eggs any style, or mix crumbled bacon into Egg and Veggie Muffins, baked in the oven. Wrap gorgonzola stuffed dates in bacon, or stuff bacon in your French Toast.

Steak and Seafood

Father’s Day calls for a special dinner, complete with surf and turf!  Start with an extra-thick Big Daddy Porterhouse Steak or a Tomahawk Rib Steak with a dramatic, extra-long rib bone. And pair it with a Chef-Ready Lobster Tail, oysters on the half shell, jumbo shrimp cocktail or jumbo kind crab legs. the side, roast asparagus or Brussels sprouts and potatoes with fresh rosemary. Or make a sauce of sautéed mushrooms, minced shallots, red wine and fresh thyme. Serve with dad’s favorite wine!

Brunch For Dad

By Berit Bancroft June 11, 2018

Kick off your Father’s Day celebration with brunch for dad at home. The wide selection of Stonewall Kitchen pancake mixes and syrups in out grocery aisle make it easy to cook up tart and tangy cranberry-orange pancakes, rich and decadent double chocolate pancakes and more. Top your light and fluffy breakfast with complementary syrups, from Maine Maple to Cinnamon Apple. And serve with smoky Roche Bros. Bacon on the side.

Layer up a local hand-boiled, hand-seeded and hand-flipped Finagle a Bagel with Ducktrap Smoked Salmon fit for a king — sourced through their own farms and then brined and smoked – plus whipped cream cheese, slices of avocado and crisp romaine lettuce. Serve up slices of our Signature Quiche and Pecan Sticky Buns to go with it.

Wake dad up for the big day with Green Mountain Coffee, iced or hot. This coffee is about the personal relationships with its farmers. The coffee is tasted and evaluated up to seven times before it reaches your cup. Their green coffee beans are carefully stored in burlap or jute bags to preserve their flavor, dryness and integrity. And they test the beans to help ensure their quality before they are roasted.
