Our 67th Anniversary

By Berit Bancroft October 09, 2019

In honor of our anniversary as your locally owned and operated family supermarket, join us in celebrating 67 years of local food and local traditions. Find a wide array of great products sourced from all over the region, as part of our New England Cheese & Food Festival, now through Oct. 26th.

Start off your next celebration at home with a New England Cheese Board, featuring a selection of local cheeses. For an all-Massachusetts board, display Great Hill Creamery Blue Cheese from Marion, MA, Buzzard’s Bay Cheddar, and a Westfield Farms Goat Log.

Or sample some cheeses from throughout the region, including Chevre from Beltane Farms in Lebanon, CT, Raw Milk Cheddar from Brookford Farms in Canterbury, NH, and a Pineland Farms Monterey Jack Cheese Bar from New Gloucester, Maine.

Find a wide array of crackers and jams to add to your spread from Stonewall Kitchen.

Take home our own potato salad, a tradition ever since Bud Roche starting making it in 1978, and serve it with sandwiches made with local deli meats from Kayem and Pearl Brand.

For dinner, select from top-of-the-catch seafood from our fresh fish partner of many years, Foley Fish. Foley’s natural, wild-caught sea scallops from Georges Bank are sugar sweet, naturally, with a firm texture. These delectable scallops caramelize in the pan for a stunning plate presentation, simply cooked with butter, lemon and your favorite fresh herbs. Or try local, wild-caught Snapper Haddock, in our 4-ingredient recipe with tomatoes and basil.

Serve up a seasonal dinner straight from the cheese department with pumpkin ravioli made in Wellesley, drizzled with Boyajian Oil from Canton.

The produce section is always brimming with local flavor, from New England grown apples to Vermont Hydroponic tomatoes to FreshBox Farms hydroponic greens grown in Millis.

And, of course, it isn’t a celebration without cake! Join at your local Roche Bros. on Saturday, Oct. 12th from 11am-2pm.

We are proud of how much we’ve grown since 1952 and it means so much to us to carry on the family tradition with 21 stores across Eastern Massachusetts. Thank you for allowing us to serve you!

Meet Adam Laliberte

By Ali Papakyrikos June 06, 2019

Recently, Roche Brothers own Director of Food Service, Adam Laliberte, had a chance to sit down with Jordan Rich of The Jordan Rich Show and chat about some new offerings here at Roche Bros.

Adam received his Bachelor’s Degree from The Culinary Institute of America. Upon his graduation he worked for seven years in Napa Valley at a restaurant called Tra Vigne. He spent his time there grooming and developing his skill set while working hands on with some of the best chefs, food and ingredients in California. He learned the art of scratch cooking, which he took with him to Salò, Italy for a Summer long stay. There, he discovered his passion for fine dining and learned the ins and outs of Italian cuisine as a chef atLa Campagnola. Following his Summer in Italy, Adam came back to the United States and continued his journey with food here in Boston, Massachusetts. Upon coming to the city, Adam became a chef at The Vault, a night club turned fine dining restaurant, which was voted one of Boston’s Best Kept Secrets.

With all of his fine dining experience, he’s taken his knowledge and passion to the retail side of the food industry. Here at Roche Bros., Adam has introduced some elements of fine dining to the Roche Bros. prepared foods selection. The new “Meals to Go” program focuses on providing customers chef crafted, ready-to-eat, restaurant style meals that focus on ethnic flavors and global cuisine. Try a unique take on a Macaroni & Cheese with our delicious Chicken Hatch Chili Mac & Cheese Bowl, the mouthwatering Bacon & Scallion, or succulent Lobster Mac & Cheese for a little less spice and a little more savor. With endless options, you can eat Italian one day and Asian or All-American the next.

Soon to come, Adam and the Prepared Foods Team have been working on a line of Brothers Marketplace calzones, as well as an organic soup expansion for Roche Bros. While you can enjoy our ready-to-eat dinners and bowls from any of our Roche Bros. locations now, keep your eyes peeled late this summer for our Antibiotic & Nitrate Free, Non-GMO Brothers Marketplace calzones. With a variety of flavors like Ham & Gouda, Calabrian Sausage, Onion & Pepper, and a Chicken, Cauliflower & Kale, your taste buds are sure to notice that these aren’t anything like a traditional calzone. Next fall, expect to see Roche Bros. new soup expansion. With organic soup flavors like Chicken & Wile Rice, Yellow Split Pea, Hearty Beef Stew, and Root Vegetable & Kale, we’re thrilled for you to bring home delicious soups ready for your family to eat.

Check out a couple of clips of Adam’s recent visit to the Jordan Rich show below.

St. Patrick’s Day Recipe Roundup!

By Berit Bancroft March 14, 2019

From classics like Stout Beef Stew to a breakfast of Corned Beef Hash ‘n Egg Cups and even Guinness® and Whiskey Spiked Brownies, our test kitchen has recipes aplenty to keep all the Irish eyes smiling this weekend.  Browse our selections and start your shopping list!

For your main course:

Bring the whole family together and celebrate Irish heritage! The most traditional St. Partick’s Day meal is Corned Beef and Cabbage. Another traditional St. Patrick’s Day dish is fried fish and chips. Try our recipe for beer-battered fish and chips with lemon, malt vinegar and tartar sauce. If you’re tired of the usual Corned Beef and Cabbage, try making this Stout Beef Stew. Or step outside the box with this St. Patrick’s Irish Lamb Shank.

Also, visit Our Kitchen for traditional St. Patrick’s Day meals that are ready to heat and serve!

On the side:

The heritage of the Roche family and so many of our associates traces back to Ireland. Celebrate Irish heritage with Ellen Roche’s Authentic Irish Bread, a special recipe that’s been passed down for generations. Another delicious option is Irish potato pancakes! Make your own Cheddar Boxty with Horseradish Sauce, using a blend of shredded hash browns and mashed potatoes. Top your Irish Soda Bread or make your potato pancakes with Kerrygold Butter and Cheeses, a premium line of hormone-free, all-natural, grass-fed butter and cheeses crafted all across Ireland but sold under one brand name.

For your dessert:

For a rich and chocolatey finish to your feast, bake a triple-spiked batch of brownies, with Guinness draught stout, Irish cream liqueur, and Irish whisky all come together in this triple-spiked batch of rich, chocolate brownies.

What to do with your leftovers:

Make Corned Beef Hash ‘n Egg Cups for breakfast or brunch, yum! For lunch there are plenty of ways to put leftover corned beef to use. Served in a wrap and sweetened with a touch of BBQ sauce, a slightly different take on Corned Beef is BBQ Corned Beef Wraps. For something more traditional complete with Russian dressing and melted Havarti cheese, turn your leftovers into a Black Irish Reuben Sandwich. Or if you want an even easier option make this 2-Step Classic Reuben Sandwich.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day from all of us at Roche Bros.

Top 10 “Make It or Take It” Items

By Dena Zigun February 02, 2018

Watch the big game with all of your favorite tailgating food, whether you bring it home from Roche Bros. or cook up your own! From chips and guacamole to hoagies and party subs — and, of course, wings — here is our guide to planning your football menu.

Wings
Make It
Make your own wings for the big game this year. Roast chicken wings with olive oil on parchment until crispy. Remove from oven and toss with hot buffalo sauce. Sprinkle with blue cheese and serve with celery sticks and ranch dressing. Or go Asian style by tossing with teriyaki sauce. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
Try our recipe for Grilled Chicken Wings with Blue Cheese Dipping Sauce or Sweet Sesame Wings.
Take It
At our Wing Bar, go for long-time fan favorites — our Honey Stung Monster Wings, flats & drummies — or taste all four flavors of our , all-natural wings. They’re packed with flavor and covered in all-natural, small batch sauces: Buffalo, Maple Bourbon, Carolina BBQ, and Sweet Teriyaki.

Chili
Make It
Simmer chili all day (or the night before) and be ready to serve a big crowd.
Here are some great recipes to choose from:
Beef & Bean Chili Verde
Sweet Potato & Black Bean Chili
Hearty & Healthy Turkey Chili

Take It
In Our Kitchen, we are cooking up the chili so you don’t have to lift a finger. Try our Spicy Chipotle Beef Chili, served with shredded cheese, avocado and cilantro.

Subs
Make It
In your kitchen, go Italian with crispy chicken parmesan subs. Dip chicken breast cutlets in egg wash and coat with herbed bread crumbs. Brown them in a pan and then bake in the oven until cooked through. Remove from the oven and top with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. Return to oven and cook for 5 more minutes until the cheese is melted. Serve on toasted sub rolls.
Or make simple and flavorful steak subs. Saute onions and green peppers and set aside. Season skirt steak with salt and pepper and add to the pan, plus some Worcestershire sauce. When the steak is cooked through, slide it on a cutting board and add to sub rolls with onions and peppers. Top with provolone and broil in the oven until the cheese is brown and bubbly.
Take It
Your party is all set to win everyone over with a festive 5-foot long sub from our deli! Place your order at our catering desk and choose from
Italian cold cuts, ham & cheese, our home-cooked roast beef, or our home-cooked turkey.

Shellfish Appetizers
Make It
Impress your home team with lobster rolls. Toss lobster meat with mayonnaise, celery and seasoned salt.
Or toss shrimp with olive oil, fresh lemon juice, chopped parsley, minced garlic and red chili flakes. Serve with tooth picks.
Take It
Our new seafood tailgating options make it easy to bring a taste of the ocean to your tailgate.  We pile our bakery’s Ciabatta bread high with garlic spread, homemade shrimp salad and cheddar cheese for a mouthwatering take-and-bake Shrimp Melt on Ciabatta.  Or keep it lighter with our own 10oz Shrimp Ring or Homemade Original Crab Dip with real Jonah Crab Meat!

Deli Platters
Make It
The focus of any charcuterie board is, of course, the meat.  Prosciutto is a favorite in any crowd – and it’s easy to grab and go with pre-packed thin slices from our deli. A nice Capicola will give your platter a splash of heat. Salamis such as Genoa or Sopressata, sliced thickly will give you a kick of smoky flavorings with a hint of peppercorn. Add cheeses, pickles, breads or crackers, dips and spreads, plus something sweet and some crunchy nuts. Check out our guide to Easy Charcuterie at Home to be ready in time for kick-off!
Take It
Our Home Cooked Turkey, Chicken, and Roast Beef offer great flavor and value for piling high on your platters.  Combine with offerings from Dietz & Watson, and our own imported Italian charcuterie packs for a big spread of all your favorites.  Or let our catering team make a platter for you – browse the options and order right online. Or try our new Hoagie in a Boule – a chopped Italian sub filling in a small bread bowl with crostini for dipping!

Chips & Dips
Make It
Fresh, ripe Hass avocados are easy to turn into your own homemade guacamole, with chopped onions, lime, salt and cilantro. Change it up with chopped tomatoes or jalapenos.
For a creamy, onion dip, mix caramelized onions with chopped green onions and chives. Blend with sour cream and season with onion powder, salt and pepper.
Serve with your favorite chips!
Take It
Let us make the fresh guacamole and pico de gallo for your party. Also choose from zesty Seven Layer Dip, melt-in-your-mouth Spinach & Artichoke Dip and spicy Buffalo Chicken Dip. Pair them with our in-house cooked tortilla chips.

Hummus
Make It
Hummus is a fan favorite dip! Up your hummus game to an authentic Middle Eastern feast with a hearty hummus bowl filled with robust and delicious lamb meatballs. Or top it with chicken shawarma and get creative with your own additions, such as marinated eggplant, mushrooms and roasted peppers.
Or blend up your own Smooth Simple Hummus and serve with veggies and crackers.
Take It
Find all sorts of authentic hummus in the store, with classics and flavors from Sabra, Cedar’s, Tribe and more. Try roasted garlic, zesty Sriracha, Mediterranean and many others. Pair with cut veggies, chips or crackers.

Steak Tips
Make It
Feed hungry fans at half time with steak tips. Start with 1 lb. of steak tips and marinate them in
1 tsp mustard, 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar, 1 tsp honey, 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil, 2 minced garlic cloves, 1/2 tbsp dried oregano and 1/2 tbsp dried rosemary. Grill 4-5 minutes on each side.
Take It
Our Kitchen’s Bourbon Grilled Steak Tips are smoky, tender and ready to heat and serve. At your tailgate, serve them piled into a hearty sandwich, rolled into a wrap, or in a big bowl all by themselves.

In our deli department, we are glad to make you a platter to bring home with all of the meats you prefer. Or choose from four types of Tasty Tailgating Snack Platters, featuring the high-quality deli meat and cheeses from Dietz & Watson and other popular brands of cheeses and snacks, we have something for any preference.

Sweet Treats
Make It
Have some fun in your kitchen with creative ways to bring footballs into your big game dessert.
Dip strawberries in melted dark chocolate, and use melted white chocolate to decorate them to look like footballs. Or frost your favorite sugar or peanut butter cookie with chocolate and decorate similarly.
Take It
Find football-themed treats in Our Bakery, including decorated half moons, football whoopie pies, and decorated game day cupcakes and cakes.

Go Pats! Enjoy the game!
