Top 10 “Make It or Take It” Items

By Sara White February 02, 2018

Watch the big game on Sunday with all of your favorite tailgating food, whether you bring it home from Roche Bros. or cook up your own! From chips and guacamole to cheeseballs — and, of course, wings — here is our new guide to planning your football menu.

Wings
Make It
Make your own wings for the big game this year. Roast chicken wings with olive oil on parchment until crispy. Remove from oven and toss with hot buffalo sauce. Sprinkle with blue cheese and serve with celery sticks and ranch dressing. Or go Asian style by tossing with teriyaki sauce. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
Try our recipe for Grilled Chicken Wings with Blue Cheese Dipping Sauce or Sweet Sesame Wings.
Take It
At our Wing Bar, go for long-time fan favorites — our monster wings, flats & drummies — or taste all four flavors of our new and improved, all-natural wings. They’re packed with flavor and covered in all-natural, small batch sauces: Buffalo, Maple Bourbon, Carolina BBQ, and Sweet Teriyaki.

Chili
Make It
Simmer chili all day (or the night before) and be ready to serve a big crowd.
Here are some great recipes to choose from:
Beef & Bean Chili Verde
Sweet Potato & Black Bean Chili
Hearty & Healthy Turkey Chili

Take It
In Our Kitchen, we are cooking up the chili so you don’t have to lift a finger. Select from
Spicy Chipotle Beef or creamy White Chicken Bean. Serve with shredded cheese, avocado and cilantro.

Subs
Make It
In your kitchen, go Italian with crispy chicken parmesan subs. Dip chicken breast cutlets in egg wash and coat with herbed bread crumbs. Brown them in a pan and then bake in the oven until cooked through. Remove from the oven and top with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. Return to oven and cook for 5 more minutes until the cheese is melted. Serve on toasted sub rolls.
Or make simple and flavorful steak subs. Saute onions and green peppers and set aside. Season skirt steak with salt and pepper and add to the pan, plus some Worcestershire sauce. When the steak is cooked through, slide it on a cutting board and add to sub rolls with onions and peppers. Top with provolone and broil in the oven until the cheese is brown and bubbly.
Take It
Your party is all set to win everyone over with a festive 5-foot long sub from our deli! Place your order at our catering desk and choose from
Italian cold cuts, ham & cheese, our home-cooked roast beef, or our home-cooked turkey.

Shellfish Appetizers
Make It
Impress your home team with lobster rolls. Toss lobster meat with mayonnaise, celery and seasoned salt.
Or toss shrimp with olive oil, fresh lemon juice, chopped parsley, minced garlic and red chili flakes. Serve with tooth picks.
Take It
From our seafood department, take home beautiful trays of fresh seafood. Try our Gourmet Lobster Tail and Shrimp Tray, with melted butter and cocktail sauce. Or serve a mini tailgate seafood dip tray with lobster, shrimp and jalapeno crab dip with crackers. Add some warm finger food with a taste of the sea, such as scallops wrapped in bacon or seafood-stuffed mushrooms.

Cheeseballs
Make It
It’s easier than you might think to make your own cheeseball! Mix 8 oz. of softened cream cheese with 1 cup of shredded cheddar and a chopped green onion. Add ½ teaspoon each of dried parsley, Worcestershire sauce and hot pepper sauce, plus ¼ teaspoon each of garlic powder and dried oregano. Form the mixture into a round ball and coat in finely chopped nuts of your choice, such as pecans, almonds or walnuts.
Take It
With a quick stop in our Cheese Shop, pick up our ready-to-go Hot Buffalo Cheeseball. And while you’re there, don’t forget the crackers. Also find a Vermont Cheese Board, and a wide array of local cheeses to serve your party-goers.

Chips & Dips
Make It
Fresh, ripe Hass avocados are easy to turn into your own homemade guacamole, with chopped onions, lime, salt and cilantro. Change it up with chopped tomatoes or jalapenos.
For a creamy, onion dip, mix caramelized onions with chopped green onions and chives. Blend with sour cream and season with onion powder, salt and pepper.
Serve with your favorite chips!
Take It
Let us make the fresh guacamole and pico de gallo for your party. Also choose from zesty Seven Layer Dip, melt-in-your-mouth Spinach & Artichoke Dip and spicy Buffalo Chicken Dip. Pair them with our in-house cooked tortilla chips.

Hummus
Make It
Hummus is a fan favorite dip! Up your hummus game to an authentic Middle Eastern feast with a hearty hummus bowl filled with robust and delicious lamb meatballs. Or top it with chicken shawarma and get creative with your own additions, such as marinated eggplant, mushrooms and roasted peppers.
Or blend up your own Smooth Simple Hummus and serve with veggies and crackers.
Take It
Find all sorts of authentic hummus in the store, with classics and flavors from Sabra, Cedar’s, Lantana, Tribe and more. Try roasted garlic, zesty Sriracha, Mediterranean and many others. Pair with cut veggies, chips or crackers.

Deli & Charcuterie Platters
Make It
The focus of any charcuterie board is, of course, the meat.  Prosciutto is a favorite in any crowd – and it’s easy to grab and go with pre-packed thin slices from our deli. A nice Capicola will give your platter a splash of heat. Salamis such as Genoa or Sopressata, sliced thickly will give you a kick of smoky flavorings with a hint of peppercorn. Add cheeses, pickles, breads or crackers, dips and spreads, plus something sweet and some crunchy nuts. Check out our guide to Easy Charcuterie at Home to be ready in time for kick-off!
Take It
In our deli department, we are glad to make you a platter to bring home with all of the meats you prefer. Or choose from four types of Tasty Tailgating Snack Platters, featuring the high-quality deli meat and cheeses from Dietz & Watson and other popular brands of cheeses and snacks, we have something for any preference.

Steak Tips
Make It
Feed hungry fans at half time with steak tips. Start with 1 lb. of steak tips and marinate them in
1 tsp mustard, 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar, 1 tsp honey, 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil, 2 minced garlic cloves, 1/2 tbsp dried oregano and 1/2 tbsp dried rosemary. Grill 4-5 minutes on each side.
Take It
Our Kitchen’s Bourbon Grilled Steak Tips are smoky, tender and ready to heat and serve. At your tailgate, serve them piled into a hearty sandwich, rolled into a wrap, or in a big bowl all by themselves.

Sweet Treats
Make It
Have some fun in your kitchen with creative ways to bring footballs into your big game dessert.
Dip strawberries in melted dark chocolate, and use melted white chocolate to decorate them to look like footballs. Or frost your favorite sugar or peanut butter cookie with chocolate and decorate similarly.
Take It
Find football-themed treats in Our Bakery, including decorated half moons, football whoopie pies, and decorated game day cupcakes and cakes.

Go Pats! Enjoy the game!

This new layout will feel comfortable for customers who regularly shop online with other retailers.  As you use the site, order of the items displayed and the recommendations will become personalized.  You can also use the new features to shop with filters like “Organic” or “Low Sodium” and set price alerts for when your favorite items go on sale.  To learn how to use these new features and place an online order, please view our brief tutorial video!

If you’d prefer to view a version of the circular that’s more like our print edition, or you want to print the circular out at home from the website, download a PDF by clicking on the “Download PDF” link in the upper right hand corner, shown by the red arrow below.  When you’re done, just click your brower’s “back” button to return to the shopping site.

We are excited to offer you this new platform, and appreciate your patience in learning the new process.  If you have any trouble with the site or questions, please contact our Home Delivery Helpdesk, open 8:30am to 5pm – 7 days a week (excluding holidays), at rochehelpdesk@rochebros.com or 781-694-5280.  Thank you!

Update: Wellesley Reusable Bag Design Challenge

By Dena Zigun October 13, 2016

Roche Bros. has partnered with Linden Square owners Federal Realty, the Wellesley Natural Resources Commission and Evolutions program at Wellesley High School to encourage reusable bag use through an innovative bag design contest!

The following designs created by Wellesley High School students were chosen as finalists.  Customers at Linden Square voted October 15 – 20, and selected design #6 below by Caroline Green and Allison MacDougall as the winner.  The bags will be available for purchase at Roche Bros. in early December.

Thank you to all those who voted, and especially to the hard-working and creating students in the Evolutions class at Wellesley High School for all of their creative and inspiring designs!

Design #1

rbc-design-1-final

“When we first started this design, the main idea that we wanted to use was the topic of “One Wellesley.” Currently, this topic means a lot to the community and to us as the designers. We put a world in the middle because we also wanted to add the idea of keeping the earth safe and clean. The two green trees represent recycling and being “green.” If you really pay attention to the trees you can see a light bulb, a gas pump, the sun, and arrows that signify the three R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle). The words“Community” and “Team Work” were taken from our backup design of a word splash. These words represent how Wellesley is a community working together to become closer and do what we all know is right. We feel as if our design really expresses the image of the town of Wellesley.”   – Taryn Drigo and Jahneay Hunt.

Design #5

rbc-design-5-final

“Our design is a combination of a few of our original designs. The design features a image of a light bulb with a green ‘W’ behind it. Inside of the light bulb is a tree with an image of town hall and the words ‘Reduce Reuse’. The ‘W’ stands for Wellesley. We also incorporated the image of town hall. We used these images in our design because people expressed a desire for the town of Wellesley to be represented on the bag. The tree and the words ‘reduce reuse’ express the bags reusability, and the positive impact it is meant to have on the environment. The light bulb represents green innovation of the sort we will need to protect the environment.” – Charlie King and Kuba Zalesky.

Design #6

rbc-design-6-final

“After thinking long and hard about many bag designs, we finally narrowed the choice down to two different bag designs. The first one was an image of a person walking their dog in the
rain with an umbrella and the text ‘Wellesley est.1881’. The second idea was of a tree with circular leaves. We knew we wanted to have the Wellesley written on it and something promoting the town going green. The idea was to make a design that was eye catching and easy to remember, but not too flashy. When we conducted a survey at Linden Square, the majority of people said they liked seeing the Wellesley theme, the color green, and something promoting the 3 R’s (reduce, reuse, and recycle). We both asked parents, friends, teachers, and anyone willing to talk for a few minutes what designs they liked best and why. We finally decided on the tree because it is what most of the people we surveyed were drawn to most. We also added the text ‘Wellesley est.1881’ in order to combine the two designs. One friend commented on the shape of the tree, saying that it might look better slightly growing to the right. Taking the comment into consideration, we changed the design and actually ended up loving it a lot more. Along with the text ‘Wellesley est.1881’, we wanted to incorporate another text promoting Wellesley’s green environment. After thinking about complicated quotes to add, we realized that, just like being green, the text should be simple, not complex. We decided on ‘It’s simple being green’. We thought it really represented what we want the buyers to know when grocery shopping; it is so easy to take the next step towards making our town clean. We tried adding words in the leaf bubbles and at first it worked, but we decided against it. First, the design might get too complicated or cluttered. Second, we filled them with landmarks in Wellesley, but felt it might be wrong if we left some out. Lastly, we didn’t want the words interfering with the main focus.” – Caroline Green and Allison MacDougall.
