A summer clambake is a festive way to get your friends and family together to celebrate while enjoying fresh, off-the-boat, local seafood. From bisque to beer, here is our guide to serving up a tempting menu in your own backyard.

 

Set the scene

Arrange a beautiful table for your clambake. Select a summery table cloth, such as red gingham or nautical stripe. Add some large seashells to the table for decoration, and some votive candles or lanterns for ambiance, especially in the evening.

Brighten your table with medium-sized buckets filled with cut sunflowers. Don’t forget to place attractive matching bowls around the table to collect seafood shells. And be ready for all of your guests to wash the meal down with a wide array of New England Beer offerings, available in Roche Bros.’ Downtown Crossing,  Marshfield, Sudbury, Westwood, West Roxbury,  and Wellesley stores.

Succulent seafood & more

It’s not a clambake without fresh, steamed clams. It’s easy to steam up the briny, sweet, soft-shelled Maine steaming clams from our fresh fish partner Foley Fish. Toss them in a pot of salty water, let them soak for about 20 minutes, and then steam. Serve with clam broth for dipping.

Complement the steamers with Maine Mussels steamed in white wine and olive oil with garlic, lemon and crushed red pepper for a kick. Add oysters on the half shell, shrimp skewers and crisp coconut shrimp to your seafood spread.

Fresh and wild-caught Live n’ Kickin’ Maine Lobsters are a special addition to your seafood celebration. If you don’t have time to cook them yourself, we would be happy to steam them in the store at our seafood counter.  Our Chef Ready Lobster Tails are ready to cook on the grill, or select our fully cooked lobster claws. Serve with melted Sea Gold garlic butter.

Pair the seafood with some tender meat selections, including grilled beef tenderloin, kielbasa and barbecued chicken.

Tempting sides

For a traditional addition to your menu, serve up Our Kitchen’s New England Clam Chowder, Haddock Chowder, Seafood Chowder, Lobster Bisque or Maryland Crab Soup. In our seafood department, try the chowders or bisque from Legal Seafood, or bring home our new Bay Shore Lobster Bisque, locally produced with no preservatives.

Highlight super sweet native butter and sugar corn on the cob — locally grown at Meadowbrook and Pinecroft Farms — with simply salted butter or a spicy butter spread with jalapenos. And offer Our Bakery’s fresh baked corn bread, hot off the grill, along with potatoes, grilled, steamed or roasted with fresh herbs.

Round out your spread with summery deli salads, including own own homemade potato salad, crunchy pineapple cole slaw, elbow macaroni salad and more.

Sweet + Satisfying

End the event with something sweet, such as Our Bakery’s Wild Maine Blueberry Pie. This all-natural pie features tiny, sweet Maine blueberries and a double, flaky crust. Add chocolate dipped strawberries and Mini Whoopie Pies to complete the party.
