Celebrate July 4th with Food in Red, White & Blue

This July 4th weekend, get patriotic all the way down to the food on your plate with our fun, delicious and colorful food and drink ideas.

Start by decorating your table with a red and white gingham table cloth. Tie your white napkins in red and blue ribbons, and don’t forget flowers to match.

Enjoy our favorite tastes of red, white and blue with these preparations for every part of your party:

 

Festive at the first bite: Get everyone in the mood for fireworks with easy-to-make bruschetta with tomatoes and blue cheese. Take a crusty French baguette home from our bakery. Chop up fresh tomatoes for the topping and season with salt and pepper, plus a touch of olive oil. Sprinkle blue cheese crumbles on top for the finish.

Fill your chip and dip plate with blue corn tortilla chips, or mix them with white. Serve with bowls of fresh salsa and sour cream.

Start your soiree with mini bowls of spicy gazpacho. Blend chopped onions, cucumbers, peppers, celery, canned tomatoes and seasonings, and top with crushed blue chips and a dollop of sour cream.

 

Your patriotic dinner is served: Turn burgers into fireworks of red, white and blue. Top them with a roasted red pepper, a slice of grilled, white Vidalia onion and a round of blue cheese. Or keep it simple – and spicy – with a swirl of buffalo sauce and cool ranch dressing.

Give grilled chicken a boost with freshly made strawberry-blueberry salsa on top. Chop the berries, along with fresh ginger, garlic, and onions. This salsa also goes well with white fish, such as cod or haddock.

 

Three cheers for spectacular side dishes: The patriotic red, white and blue potato mix in our produce department is ideal for this holiday. Roast them in the oven with salt, pepper, olive oil and fresh herbs. Stir in some sliced red peppers before roasting to make them even brighter.

Mix cherries, blueberries, pecans and scallions into red and white quinoa or wild rice. Serve warm or cold as a BBQ side.

 

A sweet independence: Offer stars-and-stripes yogurt parfaits as part of your Independence Day dessert. Find parfaits in our kitchen or make your own, layered in stripes with strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. Add a star fruit slice on the side before serving!

For another beautiful way to serve stripes, make berry kabobs. Serve with fresh whipped cream for dipping.

A glass of something festive: Fruity cocktails with fizz bring sparkle to your celebration. Try Prosecco or champagne with raspberries and blueberries in the glass. Or make a pitcher of white wine spritzers with seltzer, berries and a slice of star fruit on the side of the glass. For something non-alcoholic, try our recipe for red, white and blue layered mocktails and striped ice cubes. Or replace the wine in the spritzer with white grape juice! For a fun addition, add raspberries and blueberries with the water in your ice cube trays. Use the cubes in regular or sparkling water.
