It’s time for the official weekend to start off your summer BBQ season!

Make your Memorial Day menu local and flavorful with these fresh ideas:

Change up your burgers.

Start your beef burgers with high-quality meat, such as our USDA Choice Ground Beef or Laura’s Lean Grass-Fed Organic Ground Beef. Add unique toppings, such as fried onions, sweet mango chutney or herbed goat cheese. Don’t miss our new Berkshire Black Pork Burgers, made fresh daily in the store! Try all four flavors: Sweet Sausage with Peppers & Onions; Hot Sausage with Peppers & Onions; Chipotle and Cheese; and Sweet Sausage with Broccoli Rabe.

Feature local cheeses on your cheeseboard.

Upon arrival, tempt your guests with cheeses that are made right here in Massachusetts, including Smith’s Farmstead Gouda from Winchedon, Mass., and Shy Brothers Farm Hannahbells in plain or shallot flavor. Or create a cheeseboard with options that hail from all over New England with our guide to Making a New England Cheese Board.

Choose new salads as side dishes.

Keep everyone coming back to the buffet table for more sides with bright, flavorful salads they’ve never had before, in addition to our popular homemade potato salad. Stop by the deli for the latest new choices: Tuscan Two-Bean, Cilantro Lime Cole Slaw and Homemade Red, White and Blue Potato Salad. And from Our Kitchen, try Thai-inspired Mango Salad and Sweet and Sour Carrot Salad.

Grill your fruits and veggies.

The grill brings out the flavors of fruits and veggies for sides that match well with grilled and barbecued main courses. Read our Guide to Grilling Vegetables for tips and suggestions. Try grilling fruit kabobs with watermelon and pineapple. Serve them on the skewer for dessert, or take it off and mix it with feta and fresh mint for a refreshing salad.

Celebrate with fresh seafood off the boat.

Fresh fish from New England waters is fit for marinating and grilling. And so is seafood, such as oysters or our Chef-Ready Lobster Tails. Pick up shrimp skewers that are all set for throwing on the grill, and shrimp cocktail to eat while the grill is heating up!

Keep it sweet in red, white and blue.

Make your Memorial Day parties patriotic with a bit of red, white and blue! Decorate mini bowls of vanilla ice cream with strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, or top our pastry shells with the same. And serve stripes with berry kabobs, all lined up on a platter, plus fresh whipped cream for dipping.

As always, our bakery is prepared for your celebration with flag cakes, red, white and blue trifles and more.

Enjoy cold New England beer.

Sit back with an ice-cold New England Beer! Select from a wide array, from Jack’s Abby to Harpoon IPA, at Roche Bros. stores in Norton, Sudbury, Westwood, Marshfield, Wellesley and now Downtown Crossing. (Find great wine options, too, using our Guide to Pairings for the Grill!)

Wishing you a great start to the summer from all of us at Roche Bros!

Making a Memorable Memorial Day Menu

Memorial Day is coming up on May 25th and Roche Bros. is ready with everything you need to start off your summer BBQ season.

Check out our latest suggestions for your Memorial Day Menu:

Spice up your burgers.

Begin your burger prep with our USDA Choice Ground Beef or Laura’s Lean Grass-Fed Organic Ground Beef. Then, bring on the fire before you light up the coals by blending jalapeno and poblano peppers into the beef. Top them with avocado and fresh cilantro. For an Italian version, mix in basil, oregano and garlic powder, and top them with mozzarella and marinated tomatoes.

Or let us make them mouth-watering for you with our Certified Angus Beef Prime Grinds. We offer Prime Grinds as 85% and 90% lean ground beef, and made into Pub Burgers, Sliders, and five flavored patties: Mushroom & Swiss, Cheddar Cheese, Onion & Pepper, Bacon & Cheddar, and Cracked Black Pepper.

Grill something different.

Find something new to cook on the grill this year. We recommend Kayem Artisan Sausages or Shepard’s Pride Lamb.

Perhaps you grill the same vegetables year after year. This Memorial Day, warm up your salad with grilled hearts of romaine lettuce, simply prepared with olive oil, salt and pepper! Eggplant takes on the smoky flavors of the fire well, too. Coat it with miso and soy sauce or marinate it in balsamic vinaigrette.

Fresh fish is fit for marinating and grilling. And so is seafood, such as oysters or our Chef-Ready Lobster Tails.

Try grilling fruit kabobs with watermelon and pineapple. Serve them on the skewer for dessert, or take it off and mix it with feta and fresh mint for a refreshing salad.

You can also buy grill-ready ribs from Roche Bros. meat case, with your choice of sauces. Or take home the whole BBQ from Roche Bros. Kitchen with Bourbon Grilled Steak Tips, BBQ Pulled Pork, St. Louis BBQ Ribs and BBQ Jumbo Chicken Leg Quarters!

Satisfy guests with salads and dips.

While the grill is heating up, have chips and dips ready for snacking. Spinach and Artichoke Dip or Guacamole both go well with our in-house cooked tortilla chips. And keep your salads fresh and full of flavor with our new Blueberry & Kale Salad and Sweet Pea & Prosciutto Pasta Salad. And don’t miss our All-Natural Cole Slaw and Bud Roche’s Famous Homemade Potato Salad.

Sweeten the day in red, white & blue.

Make your Memorial Day parties patriotic with a bit of red, white and blue! Arrange blueberries and strawberries in stripes with fresh whipped cream for dessert. Or take the berries and cream and use them to decorate an Angel Food Cake from our bakery. Or choose from our Flag Decorated Cake or Fresh Fruit Tart, with fresh strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream, and our popular Trifles.

Say cheers. Toast at your backyard BBQ with beer and wine selections from our Roche Bros. stores in Norton, Sudbury, Westwood, Marshfield and Wellesley. To plan your celebration, read our guides to pairings for the grill, drinking rosé and enjoying New England Beers.

From all of us at Roche Bros., we hope you have a great long weekend!

Your Memorial Day Menu Round-Up

It’s Memorial Day this coming Monday, May 26! That means it’s time to invite your friends and family over and fire up the grill.
As always, Roche Bros. has all the staples and special touches you need to enjoy this chance to kick-off the summer.
Whether you want to make your own BBQ from scratch or you need to get a whole barbecue spread on the table in no time at all, Roche Bros. Kitchen has everything you need to make your holiday celebration delicious.
Here are our tips for your Memorial Day Menu:

The Grill
For the main course, the options are virtually endless.

Burgers and Hot Dogs: It’s not a cookout without burgers and hot dogs! Keep your backyard barbecue simple and delicious by making burgers with USDA Choice Ground Beef or Laura’s Lean Grass-Fed Organic Ground Beef.

Serve burgers that will be your most gourmet guests’ dream with our Certified Angus Beef Prime Grinds. We offer Prime Grinds as 85% and 90% lean ground beef, and made into Pub Burgers, Sliders, and five mouth-watering flavored patties: Mushroom & Swiss, Cheddar Cheese, Onion & Pepper, Bacon & Cheddar, and Cracked Black Pepper.

And enjoy a taste of Fenway in your own backyard, with Fenway Franks, new in our deli department.

Stop by the bakery department for all the buns you need to make your burgers and hot dogs complete, and find condiments in the grocery aisle.

True Barbecue Taste: Feature barbecue flavors with our wide selection of fresh ribs or Bell and Evans Chicken Breasts slathered with Sweet Baby Ray’s Award-Winning Barbecue Sauce from our grocery department.

You can also buy grill-ready ribs from Roche Bros. meat case, with your choice of sauces. Or bring home a ready-to-go BBQ from Our Kitchen with BBQ Pulled Pork, St. Louis BBQ Ribs and BBQ Jumbo Chicken Leg Quarters! Just heat and serve, without even lighting up the grill.

Marinated Main Courses: The key to delicious grilled meat is the marinade, which not only keeps it tender and juicy, but also makes for healthier grilling. You can make a simple marinade with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, salt, pepper and a hint of honey. It’s great on vegetables or steak. Or give it an Asian flavor for grilled chicken or salmon with soy sauce, rice vinegar, lime, crushed red pepper and brown sugar.

Don’t have the time to make your own? Try our wide-array of marinated Grill-Ready Kebabs. With your choice of teriyaki garlic, bourbon, lemon pepper, lemon garlic or Cajun, and all types of meat to choose from, you can easily please all of your guests’ palates.

Appetizers, Sides & Salads
To ensure that no one goes hungry while the grill is heating up, make sure you have some Honeystung Drummies warmed up from our wing bar.

And you’ll need an array of fresh vegetables with a choice of dips. Save some time in making your crudite platter with the pre-chopped vegetables, available in our produce department.
For dips, Our Kitchen’s Guacamole, Seven-Layer Dip and Buffalo Chicken Dip are always big hits. And enhance your cheese and crackers display with Our Own Homemade Cheese Spreads.

For salads, Bud Roche’s original-recipe handmade potato salad has been a staple for many years, alongside newer options, such as our Aegean Pasta Salad, both available in the deli.
And the gourmet Memorial Day side dishes made fresh daily in Our Kitchen include everything from Chickemama Salad to Grilled Cauliflower with Tomatoes.

The Sweet Tooth
For dessert, how about a selection of cookies? From chocolate chip to oatmeal raisin, you really can’t go wrong.

Make dessert patriotic with our Flag Decorated Cake or Fresh Fruit Tart, with fresh strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream.
Or take your pick of our popular Trifles, with your choice of new Black Forest, new Lemon Berry, Chocolate or Strawberry Shortcake.
Of course, you know it’s a great barbecue when seeds of watermelon are sprinkled all over the deck. Don’t forget to pick one up in the produce department!

Happy Memorial Day from all of us at Roche Bros.
