Top 10 “Make It or Take It” Items

Watch the big game on Sunday with all of your favorite tailgating food, whether you bring it home from Roche Bros. or cook up your own! From chips and guacamole to cheeseballs — and, of course, wings — here is our new guide to planning your football menu.

Wings
Make It
Make your own wings for the big game this year. Roast chicken wings with olive oil on parchment until crispy. Remove from oven and toss with hot buffalo sauce. Sprinkle with blue cheese and serve with celery sticks and ranch dressing. Or go Asian style by tossing with teriyaki sauce. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.

Take It

Chili
Make It
Simmer chili all day (or the night before) and be ready to serve a big crowd.
Here are some great recipes to choose from:
Beef & Bean Chili Verde
Sweet Potato & Black Bean Chili
Hearty & Healthy Turkey Chili

Take It
In Our Kitchen, we are cooking up the chili so you don’t have to lift a finger. Select from
Spicy Chipotle Beef or creamy White Chicken Bean. Serve with shredded cheese, avocado and cilantro.

Subs
Make It
In your kitchen, go Italian with crispy chicken parmesan subs. Dip chicken breast cutlets in egg wash and coat with herbed bread crumbs. Brown them in a pan and then bake in the oven until cooked through. Remove from the oven and top with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. Return to oven and cook for 5 more minutes until the cheese is melted. Serve on toasted sub rolls.
Or make simple and flavorful steak subs. Saute onions and green peppers and set aside. Season skirt steak with salt and pepper and add to the pan, plus some Worcestershire sauce. When the steak is cooked through, slide it on a cutting board and add to sub rolls with onions and peppers. Top with provolone and broil in the oven until the cheese is brown and bubbly.

Shellfish Appetizers
Make It
Impress your home team with lobster rolls. Toss lobster meat with mayonnaise, celery and seasoned salt.
Or toss shrimp with olive oil, fresh lemon juice, chopped parsley, minced garlic and red chili flakes. Serve with tooth picks.
Take It
From our seafood department, take home beautiful trays of fresh seafood. Try our Gourmet Lobster Tail and Shrimp Tray, with melted butter and cocktail sauce. Or serve a mini tailgate seafood dip tray with lobster, shrimp and jalapeno crab dip with crackers. Add some warm finger food with a taste of the sea, such as scallops wrapped in bacon or seafood-stuffed mushrooms.

 

Cheeseballs
Make It
It’s easier than you might think to make your own cheeseball! Mix 8 oz. of softened cream cheese with 1 cup of shredded cheddar and a chopped green onion. Add ½ teaspoon each of dried parsley, Worcestershire sauce and hot pepper sauce, plus ¼ teaspoon each of garlic powder and dried oregano. Form the mixture into a round ball and coat in finely chopped nuts of your choice, such as pecans, almonds or walnuts.

With a quick stop in our Cheese Shop, pick up our ready-to-go Hot Buffalo Cheeseball. And while you’re there, don’t forget the crackers. Also find a Vermont Cheese Board, and a wide array of local cheeses to serve your party-goers.

 

Chips & Dips
Make It
Fresh, ripe Hass avocados are easy to turn into your own homemade guacamole, with chopped onions, lime, salt and cilantro. Change it up with chopped tomatoes or jalapenos.
For a creamy, onion dip, mix caramelized onions with chopped green onions and chives. Blend with sour cream and season with onion powder, salt and pepper.
Serve with your favorite chips!

Let us make the fresh guacamole and pico de gallo for your party. Also choose from zesty Seven Layer Dip, melt-in-your-mouth Spinach & Artichoke Dip and spicy Buffalo Chicken Dip. Pair them with our in-house cooked tortilla chips.

Make It
Hummus is a fan favorite dip! Up your hummus game to an authentic Middle Eastern feast with a hearty hummus bowl filled with robust and delicious lamb meatballs. Or top it with chicken shawarma and get creative with your own additions, such as marinated eggplant, mushrooms and roasted peppers.
Or blend up your own Smooth Simple Hummus and serve with veggies and crackers.
Take It
Find all sorts of authentic hummus in the store, with classics and flavors from Sabra, Cedar’s, Lantana, Tribe and more. Try roasted garlic, zesty Sriracha, Mediterranean and many others. Pair with cut veggies, chips or crackers.

 

Deli & Charcuterie Platters
Make It
The focus of any charcuterie board is, of course, the meat.  Prosciutto is a favorite in any crowd – and it’s easy to grab and go with pre-packed thin slices from our deli. A nice Capicola will give your platter a splash of heat. Salamis such as Genoa or Sopressata, sliced thickly will give you a kick of smoky flavorings with a hint of peppercorn. Steak Tips
Make It
Feed hungry fans at half time with steak tips. Start with 1 lb. of steak tips and marinate them in
1 tsp mustard, 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar, 1 tsp honey, 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil, 2 minced garlic cloves, 1/2 tbsp dried oregano and 1/2 tbsp dried rosemary. Grill 4-5 minutes on each side.
Take It
Our Kitchen’s Bourbon Grilled Steak Tips are smoky, tender and ready to heat and serve. At your tailgate, serve them piled into a hearty sandwich, rolled into a wrap, or in a big bowl all by themselves.

 

Sweet Treats
Make It
Have some fun in your kitchen with creative ways to bring footballs into your big game dessert.
Dip strawberries in melted dark chocolate, and use melted white chocolate to decorate them to look like footballs. Or frost your favorite sugar or peanut butter cookie with chocolate and decorate similarly.
Take It
Find football-themed treats in Our Bakery, including decorated half moons, football whoopie pies, and decorated game day cupcakes and cakes.
