  1. Preheat oven to 375°; line cookie sheets with parchment paper. In small saucepan, cook butter over medium-low heat 8 minutes or until golden-amber colored, stirring frequently; cool at room temperature 1 hour.
  2. In small bowl, stir 1 cup sugar and molasses. In medium bowl, stir flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg.
  3. In large bowl, cream shortening, brown butter, sugar mixture and remaining 1/2 cup sugar with mixer on medium speed. Add eggs and vanilla extract; beat until incorporated. Reduce speed to low; gradually add flour mixture and beat until incorporated. Fold in cherries, chocolate chips and walnuts.
  4. Using 2 small spoons, drop 2 heaping tablespoons cookie mixture 2-inches apart on prepared cookie sheets; refrigerate 1 hour. Bake cookies 12 minutes or until bottoms are golden brown; cool on pan 3 minutes then transfer to wire rack.
